Collective Care
Definition
The discipline of building the care infrastructure — emotional, physical, organisational, political — that a group needs in order to sustain its members through the predictable cycles of activism, including the high-risk periods.
It is the psychosocial dimension of activist-wellbeing: collective care names what the group owes each other (a check-in after a hard action, a rota for cooking for a sick member, a buddy system for high-risk actions) where activist wellbeing names the broader practice that includes personal and organisational habits.
Practitioners in high-risk traditions (refugee accompaniment, abotion-clinic defence, climate camp) treat it as safety infrastructure, not as a soft add-on: an organisation that does not have care structures is an organisation that will lose members.
